What is the Role of a Wedding Planner

What is the Role of a Wedding Planner?

A professional who can plan a series of events and knows intricate knowledge of the wedding services and protocol is called a wedding planner. The role can be used to plan each step of the procedure that is a wedding. It’s a demanding role that may encompass spending a great deal of time with the couple and on the phone to caterers, dressmakers, hairdressers and travel agents to name but a few. In some cases a wedding planner may have several roles and can be employed to see the wedding through from the engagement right up until the end of the honeymoon.

A couple will look upon the role of the wedding planner not only to organize, make calls and arrange wedding flowers but they will also be asked to build confidence and inspire the couple in a charismatic and friendly way which will make the whole process going without a hitch. The success of the day and the smooth running of a wedding event can often be down to the hard work of the wedding planner. In some cases wedding planners may spend up to eight full weeks of hard work on any one particular event or a series of events surrounding the wedding.

If a couple were to do all their own planning it may probably take around double the length of time that a wedding planning professional could achieve in. A wedding planner may not only have to make phone calls and help to choose the best caterers for the reception role. It is a demanding role that may at some juncture have to include calming the nerves of the happy couple, preventing arguments and squabbling relatives as well as attempting to be the emotional rock in the whole process.

A wedding planners’ contract will start with a meeting with the engaged couple where many things will be discussed. There will be discussions on what the couple expects from their wedding. They will outline their hopes and dreams and may even touch on a budget which the wedding planner will have to stick to with a level of cohesion. A wedding planner needs to be creative and have a spark and energy that will fulfill the dreams and aspirations of the happy couple.

Usually a wedding planner who has been around some time and completed several weddings in the past will have some access to the many caterers and suppliers that have done so well at other weddings in the past. The role is ideal for an experienced wedding planner as they will not which suppliers are best to steer clear of and which suppliers do the best deals.

So just what are the things a wedding planner must tick off the list of things to do? At least nine months before the wedding itself or perhaps at some stage in the beginning of the wedding planning stage a planner will create a web site, folder, binder, diary or file with all the paperwork that will act as the ultimate record of the whole event. If you look through wedding magazines and periodicals you will find much inspiration from some of the types of binders you can use.

After the wedding planner has met with the couple, one of the items that would have been discussed is the budget. If the wedding needs to be economic then the wedding planner must take this into consideration and therefore not overspend. The couple will then submit a list of all the guests they will want to attend the ceremony and all those who will be invited to the reception but not the ceremony. A wedding planner will help to draft up a series of invitation cards and will also update social media events if the wedding has been added as an event online.

Many weddings that take place across the world are based on a religious doctrine. A wedding could have be Jewish, Indian or Muslim or a faith of your choice. A wedding planner should be able to give advice on these matters and report how the procedure should go ahead if one partner is of a different faith from the other. This is important as the roles of certain individuals and procedures in inter-religious or inter-faith based weddings can vary wildly.

The majority of faith-based weddings will have a set of traditions and procedures that must be adhered to and all correct etiquette needs to be observed. It is also a good idea for the wedding planner to have a degree of skill in negotiating and bargain hunting. A wedding planner will need to deal extensively with a number of companies and various suppliers and may need to chase them up from time to time. It is strongly advised that a wedding planner has their own cell phone and laptop for organizational purposes.
